SULTAN AHMED MOSQUE
An Inheritance from Our Ancestors, a World Heritage Site—Together, We Protect Sultan Ahmed.
As Starwood, we share with you the happiness and pride of undertaking yet another great duty.
One of the most distinguished works of our history, the world-heritage Sultan Ahmed Mosque will be restored under Starwood’s sponsorship for our grandchildren, 400 years after its construction.
At the ceremony where the signatures initiating the Protection and Restoration Works of the Sultanahmet Mosque were signed, Deputy Prime Minister Veysi Kaynak, Istanbul Governor Vasip Şahin, Director General of Foundations Adnan Ertem, Fatih Mayor Mustafa Demir, Istanbul Foundations Regional Director Mürsel Sarı, AK Party Bursa MP Hüseyin Şahin, AK Party Istanbul MP Ahmet Hamdi Çamlı, the contractors appointed by the Ministry, and finally Mehmet Yıldız on behalf of Starwood were present.
Within the scope of the restoration planned to take approximately 4 years, the upper lead covering of the mosque will be removed and renewed. Facade cleaning will be carried out throughout the mosque; scraping, consolidation, and rehabilitation works will be performed on the stone and marble claddings inside and outside; the minarets will be restored; and the tiles will be conserved. Existing hand-drawn ornaments on wooden and plaster surfaces will be scraped; original ornaments will be cleaned and reinstated. In the porticoed courtyard, original plasters will be consolidated. The mosque’s interior floor coverings will be repaired; additionally, comprehensive conservation will be carried out for the marble pavements and columns in the inner courtyard and for the wooden kündekari works within the mosque. Within the restoration scope—where strengthening works may also be performed if deemed necessary—classic knobbed iron railings will be repaired, landscaping will be carried out in the outer courtyard, and toilets will be renewed.
God willing, we will complete this beautiful duty granted to Starwood with your prayers and together pass this work on to future generations.
I’M DESIGN
With the awareness that furniture companies must produce products with design value for our sector to develop and progress, Starwood continues with all its strength to support design and designers.
With workshop activities and gala dinners held under Starwood’s main sponsorship, design students had the opportunity to meet many renowned national and international designers and instructors, and most importantly to become acquainted with the furniture sector.
Having taken this design event as a mission, Starwood will continue to emphasize the importance of design for our sector by sustaining the support it has provided to education for years in this field as well./h4>
BLOOD, ORGAN AND STEM CELL DONATION
Blood donation at Starwood has now become a ritual.
Through blood donation events jointly carried out with the Bursa Red Crescent for ten years, organized twice a year, approximately 1,500 units of blood donations and a considerable number of organ and stem cell donations have been achieved to date.
The Bursa Red Crescent honored Starwood personnel who donate blood regularly and the company supporting this with a plaque.
STARWOOD EMPLOYEES SOLIDARITY AND CULTURE ASSOCIATION
The Starwood Employees Solidarity and Culture Association was established in 2018 to promote respect for moral values, contribute to public services, and strengthen employee solidarity.
Working with the belief that Starwood employees can make a difference in a very wide range of fields—from health to education, from human rights to sustainable development, from the environment to natural disasters—and guided by principles that prioritize public benefit at the highest level, the association primarily carries out activities in education, culture, and sports.
Organizing many events from folk dance studies to music courses, from cultural trips to sports competitions, the association aims to bring to the forefront the spirit of love, respect, brotherhood, and teamwork among employees by spending enjoyable time outside of work and engaging in social and sporting activities.
